Frequently asked questions

How much does a new furnace cost?

The cost to install most standard high efficiency furnaces is between $4,500-$6,500

Prices vary due to alterations to the existing system, accessories and upgrades, as well as the size and quality of the furnace.

What is the life expectancy of a high efficiency furnace?

A well-maintained high efficiency furnace will serve you well for 15-20 years. After 15-20 years, furnace repairs become more frequent and more expensive. Eventually, it will become more cost effective to replace the furnace rather than repair it.

What are the different furnaces options?

85% efficient non condensing gas furnaces are currently being phased. All new gas furnace will be condensing 90% efficiency or higher. The most common furnace options are single stage, multiple  stage and modulating.   Option 1:  A single stage gas furnace is simple and reliable. Heat output is 100%. Ideal for most situations.  Option 2: 2-stage variable speed gas furnace provides a more balanced temperature. Heat output is 40% or 100%. ECM motors are ideal for larger spaces. Option 3: Modulating variable speed gas furnaces. These provide precision heating and usually come with communicating controls and stainless steel heat exchangers. Heat output is between 10%-100%. Ideal for large spaces, and ducted zone systems. When comparing furnace brands, it a good idea to know who the manufacture is. Most furnaces brands come from the same factory. These brands are nearly identical except for the cost, customer service and warranty.

What is Garage Radiant Tube Heater?

Radiant tube gas heating is a great option for garages. A long metal tube is heated so as to radiate heat in the form of infrared light. As such, it heats surfaces directly without relying on heating the air.  Pros and Cons 30-40% more energy efficient than forced air. Prevent formations of condensation on tools. Fastest heat recovery option. Dryer floors and surface area. Doesn't blow around dust or fumes.  Best for keeping your floor, tools and equipment warm. More expensive than force air. Large footprint; large surface area will collect dust.  Big clearances are needed; <7ft ceiling height,

What is a Garage Forced Air Gas Unit Heater?

Unit heaters are the most affordable and universal option. Forced air gas unit heaters are like a small ductless household furnace. They blow around hot air to heat the space. Pros and Cons Smallest foot print and less than 24" clearance. Fast heat recovery Least energy efficient option. Blows around air, dust and fumes.

What is a Garage In-floor Heating System?

In-floor heating is an energy efficient technology that provides luxurious comfort. Ideal for heated car garages. With in-floor heating, hot water flows through plastic pipes installed in the concrete floor and heats the area from the ground up.  Pros and Cons Most efficient and comfortable option Doesn't blow around dust or fumes.  Warm dry, floor ideal for snow melt Small foot print and less than 24" clearances   Most expensive option Slower heat recovery

What are some things I should consider when parking my vehicle in a heated garage?

Heated garages with parked vehicles will require humidity and moisture control due to snow melt and rain water. Humidity control may include dehumidifiers, air exchange system like Heat Recovery Ventilators (HRVs), and exhaust fans. Floor drains may be required for snow melt.
