Frequently asked questions

What is the life expectancy of an air conditioners?

A well-maintained air conditioner will serve you well for 15-20 years. I don't recommend most major repairs after 15 years. Over time, the copper on air conditioners becomes worn and fatigued making refrigerant leaks more common. Additionally, compressor oil gets contaminated and becomes acidic. However, small repairs like replacing electrical components is still recommended in order to extend your air conditioner’s life expectancy

How much does a new air conditioner installation cost?

The average cost of a 13 SEER air conditioner is $4500-$6,000.  While supplies last. The average cost of a 15.2 SEER2 air conditioner is $5,000-$6,800 Prices vary due to electrical permits, alterations to the existing system, accessories and upgrades, as well as the size and quality of the air conditioner

What are the different air conditioner options?

The most common air conditioning options are single stage, two stage and modulating, and are available with energy efficiency rating from 14 SEER2 through 25.8 SEER2. Option #1: A single stage air conditioner is simple and reliable. The cooling output is 100%. Ideal for most situations. Option #2: A two stage air conditioner has a cooling output of 40%-100%. Option #3: Modulating air conditioners provide precision cooling and dehumidification. Cooling output of 10%-100%. Ideal for large spaces, and zoned systems. Air conditioners consist of two parts: the outdoor condenser and indoor evaporator. The outdoor condenser rejects heat to the outdoor air. The indoor evaporator cools the indoor air. There are two styles of outdoor condenser: vertical air discharge and horizontal air discharge. Option #1: The most common and affordable condenser option is vertical air discharge. Vertical air discharge condensers sit 30"-42" from an exterior wall. Option #2: The advantage to horizontal air discharge condensers has a smaller footprint and sits closer to an exterior wall. Horizontal air discharge condenser sits 18"-24" from an exterior wall. There are two styles of indoor evaporator: ducted and ductless. Option #1: Ducted indoor evaporators are connected to existing ductwork systems that deliver air evenly throughout the entire home. Option #2: Ductless indoor evaporators are small wall mounted fan boxes that deliver warm and cold air to a singular area. When comparing furnace brands, it is a good idea to know who the manufacturer is. Most furnaces brands come from the same factory. These brands are nearly identical except for the cost, customer service and warranty.

What is S.E.E.R. or S.E.E.R.2.

SEER stands for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating. Air conditioners and heat pumps are given a SEER number. These numbers represent how much cooling is achieved for every watt of power that is consumed. The higher the SEER number, the more efficient the air conditioner. For example, a 17.1 SEER2 compared to a 15.2 SEER2 consumes 12.2% less power. The calculation for the Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating has changed. SEER2 is the new standard because it better reflects real world conditions. For example: A 16 SEER air conditioner is now a 15.2 SEER2 air conditioner. 16 SEER consumes 5% more electricity than what was originally calculated. So the number 16 has been downgrade to a less efficient 15.2 As of January 1, 2023, 14 SEER2 is the new minimum standard for air conditioners and heat pumps 13 SEER air conditioners are still available for sale while supplies last.

What is Ductless split air conditioner?

A ductless or mini split air conditioner is designed to deliver warm or cool air to a single room or several without the need for an existing furnace and ductwork system. Ductless splits are great for room additions, sunrooms, garages or areas of the home that need to be warmer or cooler.

Where is the ideal place for an outdoor condenser?

Modern outdoor condensers can be placed almost anywhere on your property. Condensers sit 18"-42" from the exterior wall and 0ft-50ft off the ground. Consider the following: · Keep out of public view or next to high traffic to avoid theft or vandalisms. · Keep away from windows, walkways and high traffic areas. · Keep out of direct sunlight when possible. · Keep away from dryer vents. · Keep away from dogs. Dog urine will deteriorate metal. · Keep away from bird houses and bird feeders. Bird guano will deteriorate metal. · Allow for easy access for cleaning and servicing.
